IOSH Level 6 - Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health Leadership and Management, designed for senior professionals

Course Description

The IOSH Level 6 Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health Leadership & Management is a degree-level, professional qualification designed for experienced OSH practitioners who aim to take leadership or senior roles in their organisations.

Key points:

It is built on the IOSH Competency Framework and emphasises a business-focused understanding of OSH (Occupational Safety & Health) — not just systems, but how OSH contributes to organisational strategy, culture and performance.
 

You’ll develop advanced technical OSH knowledge (legal frameworks, risk management, incident management), integration of OSH within business systems, and leadership & influencing skills for driving change.
 

On successful completion you meet the academic requirements to apply for IOSH Certified Membership (CertIOSH) and the qualification is globally recognised, regulated by UK frameworks (Ofqual) and approved by the Institute of Leadership and Management.
 

Typical duration: around 18 to 24 months (depending on provider, learning mode and prior experience).
 

Assessment: Work-based assignments, portfolios, presentations and reports rather than traditional sit-down exams.
 

Entry requirements: Often you must be 19+ and have a prior OSH qualification (Level 3) or at least 2 years’ relevant OSH experience.
 

In short: this is aimed at practitioners who already operate at a tactical/operational level and who now want to move into strategic OSH leadership — aligning OSH with business value, culture, sustainability and senior leadership influence.
